FAQ

Once I start going to a chiropractor do I need to keep going forever?

No. Chiropractic care includes not only adjustments, but also education and rehabilitation exercises. It is our goal to not only educate you as a patient, but also to give you all the tools to be able to manage your condition yourself. Some patients choose to come periodically for preventative treatments, while other patients will only  seek treatment when an injury or issue arises. Here at Cherryhill Chiropractic we know every patient is different and we want you to be in tune with your body and listen to the messages your body is sending you.

Do I need a referral for Chiropractic care?

No. Chiropractors are primary care professionals, which gives them the ability to do a thorough history, assessment and diagnosis for musculo-skeletal conditions. Chiropractors are more commonly being referred by other healthcare professionals, like medical doctors. Often Chiropractors and medical doctors are working closely to co-manage patient’s conditions.

What is an adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is a safe and effective form of treatment. It is a highly skilled and specific force applied to a joint to increase range of motion of a joint. With the adjustment there is also a sudden stretch of the surrounding tissue, which can release any adhesions or scar tissue.

What is the cracking sound?

The popping or clicking sound that can accompany an adjustment is a completely normal and healthy process. Dissolved gas molecules in the joint fluid are released as a vacuum forms within the joint being treated. The sound is not necessary for an effective adjustment as there are many different ways to adjust or mobilize a joint that do not make any noises.

Is Chiropractic Safe?

Even though every form of treatment you will receive carries some sort of risk, chiropractic treatment is known to be one of the safest forms of treatment. Patients often will experience immediate relief after an adjustment. Patients will sometimes experience some soreness after a treatment, which can be explained by the doctor.

Is chiropractic care covered by OHIP?

No. Chiropractic treatment is not currently covered by OHIP.

Do I need X-rays before treatment?

X-rays are only used to rule out a more serious medical condition such as; cancer, fracture, or other bone/joint pathology. Most patients will not need an X-ray to begin treatment.

Is chiropractic care covered by my benefits?

Most benefit packages offer coverage for chiropractic. It is recommended that you check with your insurance provider to determine the amount of coverage given.

What does a normal chiropractic care plan look like?

Chiropractic treatment plans usually consist of a few initial visits over a short time span (e.g. 6 visits in the first 2 weeks). After the first trial of care we can re-evaluate to determine if this treatment is appropriate and effective. If the current plan is effective and progression has been made visits will be reduced and eventually the patient can be discharged.

Do you have to prepay for a treatment package?

Some chiropractors have upfront payments for up to 12 treatments or more. At Cherryhill Chiropractic you pay for the initial consultation and then a reduced fee for subsequent visits, which can be paid at the time of each treatment.
